Eating Disorder Treatment

Do you spend most of your day planning how to avoid eating?

Do you eat healthy meals in front of others but binge on "forbidden" foods when alone?

Do you feel the need to rid yourself of foods you eat by vomiting, using laxatives or excessive exercise?

Are you waiting to be thin to live your life?

Eating disorders are serious matters. Frequently beginning with "wanting to lose a few pounds" the struggle can quickly become an all-encompassing obsession. Families often feel frustrated and overwhelmed by their loved one's behaviors.

The Athena Center is committed to providing a wide range of comprehensive outpatient services for the treatment of Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia and Emotional Eating. Because we do not work with insurance panels, we can work with you to determine the type and length of treatment to meet your needs. Please note: As with all of our services, we will collaborate with you to determine a financial plan that is reasonable and workable.

Our program is designed to provide support for women of all ages and their loved ones. Each woman's program is designed to meet her unique needs.

In addition to providing individual and family therapy for our clients with eating disorders, we offer additional services including:

Adolescent Eating Disorders Group

Mondays 4:30 – 5:30 PM
This group is for girls ages 13-17 struggling with anorexia nervosa, bulimia and compulsive eating. The primary focus is to assist group members in identifying contributing factors that lead to symptom use and to offer support in finding healthier, more satisfying coping skills.

Intensive Outpatient Program for Eating Disorders (IOP)

This program is designed for those in need of more than once or twice a week outpatient therapy. The IOP meets 3 evenings a week (Mon, Tues, Thurs) and incorporates group therapy and creative arts therapy to assist you with stabilization of your eating disorder symptoms. In addition, we provide dinner each evening in a safe and supportive environment as well as family education and support.

Athena Support Group for Eating Disorders

Every Other Friday 7:00 – 8:30 PM
This support group meets every other week and is open to individuals and their families. Come ask questions and hear how others are coping with an eating disorder. Free for clients of The Athena Center and open to the public for a fee of $15.00 per individual or family.

Therapeutic Meals and Support

Mealtimes often become a battleground when someone is struggling with an eating disorder. Family members may feel overwhelmed and helpless as they watch their loved one struggle.

We offer a unique opportunity for families to eat a meal at The Athena Center with a licensed therapist specializing in eating disorders. Learn effective tools and coping skills for dealing with mealtime.

Embodiment Groups for Eating Disorders

Eating disorders may lead to obsessions with body shape and size, but often there is great difficulty with actually being present in one's body. Led by a movement therapist, this group aims to create connection to one's presence through the use of compassionate movement.

If you or a loved one are struggling with any eating disorder, please contact The Athena Center to schedule a confidential assessment.
